Mike Wallace, No. 33 Realtree Driven to the Outdoors Chevrolet Impala SS Talladega Preview
NOTES:
• This Week’s Realtree Chevrolet at Talladega Superspeedway … Mike Wallace will race chassis No. 260 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Cup Series stable, a brand new Impala SS for the 2008 season.
• Stat Facts … In 16 starts at the famed Alabama oval, Wallace owns two top-10 finishes and has led six laps of competition.
• Good Start, Better Finish … With the exception of the spring 2002 and fall 2007 events, the four-time Nationwide Series winner has posted finishes better than his starting position. In addition, the veteran driver holds a 30.2 starting average coupled with a 21.6 finishing average and has completed an impressive 2,834 of 3,016 total laps (94 percent) at the larger-than-life oval.
• The Crew Behind the Car … Crew chief Shane Wilson will lead the No. 33 Realtree Driven to the Outdoors Racing team this weekend at Talladega while Clint Bowyer’s No. 2 BB&T NASCAR Nationwide Series crew will go over the wall.
• Making it Four … Wallace’s attempt to qualify RCR’s No. 33 Realtree Driven to the Outdoors Chevrolet at Talladega will give RCR four entries for this weekend’s AMP Energy 500. The St. Louis, Mo., native is currently eighth in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings after 30 races. This will be his first Cup Series attempt this season but he has 186 career starts since making his series’ debut in 1991. In two Cup Series races last season, he finished fourth in the Daytona 500 and 19th at the fall race at Talladega.
• RCR at Talladega … Richard Childress competed as a driver in Talladega’s inaugural race in 1969 and used his winnings from that race weekend to help start RCR. Childress lays claim to nine victories at the Talladega oval - all of them coming with Dale Earnhardt. Additionally, in 108 starts, RCR boasts four poles, 27 top-five, 44 top-10 finishes and just over $7.3 million in earnings.
• And Now a Word from Our Sponsor … RCR and Realtree, based in Columbus, Ga., have a long-standing relationship. Realtree president Bill Jordan and RCR president and CEO Richard Childress have been personal friends for decades and Team Realtree first sponsored the legendary Dale Earnhardt and RCR’s No. 3 GM Goodwrench team in 1997. Team Realtree also sponsors Team Dillon Racing driver Ty Dillon, the younger grandson of Childress, in the Fastrak Racing Series Dirt Late Model Touring Division. Realtree is the home of America’s most versatile camouflage patterns. MIKE WALLACE QUOTE:
What are your thoughts on driving RCR’s No. 33 Chevy this weekend at Talladega?
"The best compliment was paid to me by Richard Childress, Mike Dillon and the folks at RCR. They said they were going to build a car that’s going to be really fast and we want to hire the best person that we think can win the race for us. It’s a privilege from both the sponsor side and the owner side. Running a car for RCR is incredibly exciting to me. I’m thrilled to death because it’s something that I have wanted to do my whole career and I couldn’t be happier to do it with a top notch organization and a fun sponsor.”
