RCR Chassis No. 5 started life as a No.3 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo in 1987 and was a workhorse during RCR's championship run that year. In 1987 it won four of the six races it was run in and finished second in the other two.

Its final victory, on April 16, 1989 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway, was the first NASCAR Winston Cup race that radial tires were used. It ran 15 races from March 1987 to April 1989, winning six of those races and finishing every race in the top 10.
