RCR earned its first NASCAR Winston Cup victory on June 5, 1983, with this No. 3 Piedmont Airlines Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Ricky Rudd at the Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway road course. Rudd would earn one more victory that season, in September at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway before Dale Earnhardt returned to RCR for the 1984 season. Piedmont Aviation was one of RCR's first major corporate sponsors.
