Richard Childress Racing joined influencers in environmental sustainability, business and sport at the 2015 NASCAR Green Summit presented by American Ethanol-E15 on Wednesday in Chicago where the organization was among those honored for its dedication to making a positive impact on the environment.
Steve O’Donnell, Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer of NASCAR, formally acknowledged RCR, noting the organization’s efforts surrounding Green partnerships and resulting innovations, particularly around The Dow Chemical Company and Growth Energy. Austin Dillon, driver of the No. 3 Dow/American Ethanol/Cheerios/Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, accepted the award on behalf of RCR.
“I’m proud to represent brands that recognize the importance of sustainability and do their part to help protect the planet,” said Dillon. “Sport is universal and teams, athletes and our partners have the opportunity to lead the conversation and bring awareness to the issue of climate change and how we can all play a role in reducing our impact on the environment.”
At the summit, Dillon served as a featured athlete on a panel that examined the importance of sports in climate change, how sports are helping protect the planet and how sports leaders are advancing green behavior. Dillon has utilized his relationship with Growth Energy, Dow, Bass Pro Shops and other partners to become an influencer in environmental sustainability. Other panel speakers included fellow NASCAR driver Sam Hornish Jr.; two-time NBA champion Mike Miller of the Portland Trailblazers; former NFL linebacker and sustainable farmer, Will Witherspoon; and current UFC Welterweight Champion and 2014 Fighter of the Year, Robbie Lawler.
Several RCR partners were represented at the NASCAR Green summit, including Dow, Growth Energy, Grainger, Chevrolet, VF Imagewear and Safety-Kleen.
