Austin and Ty Dillon Attend 2011 Urban Youth Racing School Awards Ceremony

Richard Childress Racing drivers Austin and Ty Dillon traveled to Philadelphia, Pa., for the 14th annual Urban Youth Racing School Awards Ceremony at the Simeon Foundation Museum. The Dillon brothers had the opportunity to present two racing awards to the 2011 class.

The Urban Youth Racing School was established in 1998 by Social Entrepreneur and sports marketing expert Anthony Martin. The level of investment has allowed the UYRS to achieve a 99% high school graduation rate, and a 90% college matriculation rate for students who have been involved in the programs. The UYRS has served 3000 students in the past 15 years with 85% from city areas that are below the poverty level. Their highest awards come from the testimonials of UYRS parents and students who trust them every year to keep their families engaged in opportunities to meet high achievers from the racing industry, scientists, engineers, inventors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders whom the students may never have the ability to access, who may have shared their life experience.

Ty Dillon, 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender, presented the Little Racers Award at the awards ceremony. “It was really cool to meet all of the young students in the Urban Youth Racing School,” said Dillon. “They put in a lot of hard work and dedication to be apart of the program. It’s an honor to be here presenting them awards for their achievements.”

UYRS offers students a variety of learning styles and methods through programs like the Build A Dream Program, Engine Design and the Driver/Team Development Program. Like most educational programs, students read, write and take weekly assessments. Students are taught using various technologies including internet, computers and other digital technology. Project-based assignments, service learning, internships and field trips are a critical part to instruction at UYRS.

Austin Dillon, 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion, presented three students with the Teen Racers Award for their achievements on the race track. “I’m really proud to be here at the awards ceremony on behalf of Chevrolet,” said Dillon. There are a lot of talented kids here who deserve these great awards.”
