NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Jeff Burton presented Steve Cosper, owner of Concord, N.C.-based Granite Contracting, with the 12th annual Contractor of the Year award sponsored by Caterpillar and leading national trade magazine Equipment World at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nev.
Now in its 12th year, the prestigious award is decided by a long list of established criteria. To determine the winner of each year’s Contractor of the Year program, Equipment World’s editors spend a day interviewing the candidates and visiting their crews and sites, as well as evaluating comments made by the contractor’s references. Accolades heard about Cosper included, “Steve is proactive. He saw a problem and called us before we even had a chance to call him,” and “Steve has more integrity in his pinky finger than most people have in their entire body.” Cosper was chosen by the magazine’s editors primarily for his dedication to growing his company, his passion for maintaining an excellent equipment fleet, his commitment to his clients and smart business practices.
All Contractor of the Year finalists received a four-day trip to Las Vegas and attended the Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway courtesy of Caterpillar, which sponsors the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet driven by Burton and owned by six-time NSCS champion owner, Richard Childress.
“Sponsorship of this award is important to first-class operation like Caterpillar,” said Burton, currently in his 19th fulltime season in NASCAR’s elite division. “I’m honored to be here today presenting this award on behalf of Caterpillar and its employees.”
