Race Rewind ... Starting 24th in last year's edition of the Charlotte 500, Menard was involved in an early accident, relegating him to a 27th-place finish under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Menard's Thoughts on the Racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway
: "I enjoy racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's a 1.5-mile track and we've had some of our best runs at intermediate tracks this year. We're coming off a top-10 finish at Kansas (Speedway), another 1.5-mile track, so hopefully that will give us a little momentum going into the weekend. Turns one and two at Charlotte are different from turns three and four. The angles are different and the banking feels different. You have to be able to get back on the gas early and hard when you exit the turns in order to get around there fast. There's a lot of grip and the tires are usually hard, so the key is getting the car to point off of the corners and get on the throttle hard. It's a 500-mile Saturday night race, so depending on the weather, the track conditions will change from the start of the race to the end. We'll need to make sure we stay on top of our setups and make a good qualifying run on Thursday so we can start up front on Saturday."

He has an average starting position of 18.8, an average finishing position of 17.3, has completed 97.4 percent (8,686 of 8,918) of the laps contested and has 34 laps led to his credit.

This race is scheduled to air live on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. ET, along with the Performance Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Race Rewind ... After starting from the 11th position, Harvick and the No. 29 Jimmy John's team collected a 16th-place finish under the lights of Charlotte Motor Speedway during the 2012 edition of this event, after battling handling issues during the late stages of the 500-mile event.

You won the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May. What did the No. 29 team learn then that you can apply to this weekend?
"Good pit strategy, that's what we hit on last time we were at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We had a decent car in May, but Gil (Martin, crew chief) made the right call at the end to put us in position to have a good restart. Once we were in the right spot, we were able to hold the lead once we got there and were able to pick up the win."

Compare the difference of racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway in fall to the spring. "The main difference is the temperature change. Once night falls during the October race, Charlotte (Motor Speedway) becomes completely different than what we practice on during the day. You can bet on the fact that the track will be really fast as the temperature drops and we'll gain a lot of grip."

Race Rewind ... A multi-car accident on a lap-16 restart collected Burton's No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet relegating him to a 28th-place finish under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

What are your thoughts on going back to Charlotte Motor Speedway after a strong run in May?
"When we raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May, it started a run of races where we ran better than the year before. That was the start of the No. 31 team understanding what it takes to run well. We're going back to Charlotte with more confidence than ever. The strong runs are there, just not consistent finishes. We've changed so much with our 1.5-mile program since the first Charlotte races that I am excited to see what we have to offer. These Gen-6 cars have also evolved a lot since May which was expected in the beginning."

What are your thoughts as you're about to make your Sprint Cup Series debut this weekend?
"It'll be an exciting time. It's something that I've dreamed about since I was a young kid, and will be great to see it come to fruition. I was fortunate enough to do two evenings of testing at Charlotte (Motor Speedway) to get acclimated to the Chevrolet SS with the crew. I'm really excited that we all left the test feeling pretty good and are anxious to get back and see how we stack up with everyone else."

What was the most noticeable difference between the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars and the Nationwide Series car? "It's nice to have all that power under the hood, and you have to figure out how to use the power. We have to figure out how to maintain and use momentum to our advantage, and keep the tires on the track throughout the 500 miles. I'm learning and can't wait to see how we do Saturday."
