Richard Childress Racing, Chevrolet lead Friday test session at Daytona
Chevrolets from Richard Childress Racing were first-, second-, fourth- and 10th-fastest in Friday morning's Sprint Cup test session at sunny and warm Daytona International Speedway. Drivers ran mostly by themselves in the morning, but many plan to draft for the first time on Friday afternoon.
The three-day test ends Saturday, even though some teams plan to load up and go home after today's afternoon session.
RCR veteran Jeff Burton led the opening three-hour session at 194.805 miles per hour. Teammate Kevin Harvick was second at 193.557 mph and Toyota driver Matt Kenseth was third at 193.121 mph for Joe Gibbs Racing. RCR driver Paul Menard was fourth at 192.963 mph and Roush Fenway star Greg Biffle fifth in a Ford at192.719 mph.
Toyota driver Kyle Busch ran 192.691 mph for JGR and older brother Kurt was seventh at 192.575 mph in a Chevy for Furniture Row Racing. Marcos Ambrose, in a Ford for Richard Petty Motorsports, was eighth at 192.542 mph. Danica Patrick was next at 192.505 mph in a Chevy from Stewart Haas Racing and Austin Dillon was 10th in an RCR Chevrolet at 192.423 mph.
