Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial team finished 12th at Texas Motor Speedway in the sixth event of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. Sadler’s qualifying efforts earned the team a fifth-place starting position for the main event, and as the green flag dropped on the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300, the OneMain Financial team battled a tight-handling condition. Sadler maintained position in the top-five for much of the race, leading the event for four laps. The field was subject to two lengthy delays due to a light outage in turn 3, eventually bringing out the red flag on lap 169. Just prior to the long caution period, as Sadler fell back to the seventh position, he relayed he felt a strong vibration in the OneMain Financial Chevrolet, and the splitter was hitting the track hard. As the field resumed racing when the track issue was resolved for a final six-lap shootout, Sadler was shuffled back in traffic and crossed the finish line in the 12th position. Sadler remains the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver championship points leader by four markers over Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
ELLIOTT SADLER QUOTE:
“It was a disappointing finish for us tonight. We had a really great car tonight, but we were tight all night. Toward the end of the race, I started to feel a vibration, and we hit the track pretty hard with the splitter. We will regroup to figure out how to work with the splitter better at the intermediate tracks.”
