Elliott Sadler and Cometic Gasket Create a Little March Madness

Friendly wager on the line for UNC vs OU Match-Up

Richard Childress Racing driver Elliott Sadler has some extra incentive in pulling for his beloved University of North Carolina Tar Heels as they take on the Ohio University Bobcats in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 match-up Friday evening, courtesy of RCR partner Cometic Gasket.

Based in Concord, OH, Cometic Gasket is a leading worldwide supplier of custom and short-run gaskets for the motorsports industry, and Chief Executive Officer Bob Gorman is a large supporter of Ohio University. Gorman’s son, Jeff, earned his engineering degree from the university and following the Bobcats’ upset win over the University of Michigan which created the Sweet 16 round match-up with Sadler’s Tar Heels, he decided it was time to have some fun with the NASCAR Nationwide Series points leader.

Should Gorman’s Bobcats triumph over the Tar Heels on Friday night, Sadler’s No. 2 Pierre Drive Thru Chevrolet will carry an Ohio University decal during Saturday’s Nationwide Series event at Auto Club Speedway. If UNC is the victor, then Cometic Gasket will donate $1,000 to the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Foundation.

"When I saw the piece on NASCAR Race Hub with Elliott and Hermie Sadler in Chapel Hill, I thought we should place a friendly wager and have a little fun," said Gorman. "This is the first time OU has reached the Sweet 16 since the NCAA tournament expanded the field to 64 teams so it's been a long time coming for the Bobcats. They're in a great position to upset one of the most powerful teams in the nation and I like the way this one stacks up for OU. I think you'll be seeing an OU decal on Elliott's car on Saturday out in California. But, if North Carolina pulls it off, Cometic will make the donation to the Sadler Foundation. So, regardless of the outcome, this is going to be a win-win for everyone."

Not surprisingly, Sadler disagrees.

“OU played well and were able to knock off Michigan to advance to the Sweet 16 to face the Tar Heels,” said Sadler. “But even with the injuries UNC is facing for this game, I think they are going to claim the victory against the Bobcats. I say my No. 2 Pierre Drive Thru Chevrolet will remain as is and the Sadler Foundation will end up with a donation in the end.”

Tip-off for the NCAA game between UNC and OU is scheduled for Friday, March 23 at 7:47 p.m. E.T. and can be seen live on TBS. Sadler and the Nationwide Series drivers are scheduled to take the green flag from Auto Club Speedway on Saturday, March 24 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN.
