BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
"After the challenges we faced today at Watkins Glen I wouldn't have guessed we would finish inside the top-10. I'm really proud of my Shore Lodge Chevrolet team for pushing through and pursing today. This was a great points day for our team. Hopefully we'll have a better weekend at Mid-Ohio next week while honoring our Nationwide Insurance Champion Patient, Avery."
Ty Dillon Finishes Eighth in Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International
Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing's No. 3 Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet Camaro to an eighth-place finish Saturday afternoon in the Zippo 200 at the eight-turn road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y.. Dillon qualified eighth earlier in the afternoon alongside his three RCR teammates and quickly settled into single-file racing for the first 23 laps. The 22-year-old driver was scored as the race leader on lap 23 before coming in for a four-tire and fuel pit stop on lap 24. For the remainder of the race, Dillon and crew chief Danny Stockman radioed back-and-forth discussing the team's pit strategy. On lap 51, Dillon brought his No. 3 Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet to pit road under green-flag conditions inside the team's pit window. The strategy paid off as Dillon raced inside the top-10 for the remainder of the 82-lap event. He crossed the finish line inside the top-10 for the 15th time this season marking the team's fourth consecutive top-10 finish. The Welcome, N.C.-native is currently fourth in the driver point standings trailing the leader by 13 points, and second-place by one point.
Start - 8th Finish - 8th Laps Led - 1 Points - 4th
TY DILLON QUOTE:
"This is a very fast and difficult road course. I had fun racing out there today, I enjoy road course racing. Our pit strategy, I thought, was very good and our No. 3 Yuengling Light Lager Camaro handled very well throughout the day. We'll take the notes from this road race and continue to build our road course program. We had a lot of folks from Yuengling here watching today - I hope it was as fun for them and the fans as it was driving."
Paul Menard Finishes Ninth at Watkins Glen
Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing's No. 33 Turtle Wax/Menards Chevrolet Camaro to a ninth-place finish at Saturday's 82-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Watkins Glen International. The Eau Claire, Wis., driver started sixth and raced in the top five until a scheduled pit stop on lap 21 for four tires and fuel. The RCR driver radioed to his team during the lap-26 caution that his Turtle Wax/Menards Chevrolet got better on the longer race runs. Menard raced in the top 10 until the lap 40 caution when crew chief Nick Harrison called him down pit road for four tires and fuel. This put the No. 33 Chevrolet team off sequence and able to pit for fuel only during green flag pit stops on lap 51. Harrison called Menard down pit road for his final pit stop on lap 60 and the No. 33 Chevrolet team restarted 26th leaving Menard 20 laps to race back into the top 10. The Turtle Wax/Menards team ultimately finished the race at Watkins Glen in the ninth position. Up next for Menard in the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro is Saturday's race at Chicagoland Speedway in October.
Start - 6th Finish - 9th Laps Led - 0 Points - N/A
PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
"I really screwed up there at the end with the speeding penalty leaving pit road. We had a fast car all weekend and today was no different. We struggled in the beginning with drive off, but as the race progressed that problem went away. We really didn't make any changes to the Turtle Wax/Menards Chevy all day besides tires and fuel. We were definitely a top-five car, but it just didn't work out for us today."
Brendan Gaughan Finishes 28th at Watkins Glen International
Brendan Gaughan and the South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro took the green-flag in the ninth position for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International. Reports of tight-handling conditions began in the early laps of the 82-lap event. On lap 21 and lap 28 Gaughan was forced to make a pit stops after getting grass on the grille. The Richard Childress Racing team fought hard to move up through the field and, on lap 52, took over the race lead. Late race battles caused the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro to pick up grass on the track, causing the water temperature to rise and forcing the team to visit pit road to cool down. Gaughan crossed the finish line in 28th-place as he and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team moved up to seventh in the driver point standings as the Series heads to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course next weekend.
Start - 9th Finish - 28th Laps Led - 5 Points - 7th
BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
"Tough day for this Richard Childress Racing team. We were contending for the win and started pushing water with about 20 laps to go. Lucky for us we have a great partnership with Lucas Oil and the 62 Chevrolet was able to hang out and finish the race. We are ready to head to Mid-Ohio next week and redeem ourselves."
