All three full-time Richard Childress Racing NASCAR XFINITY Series teams have qualified for the inaugural NXS Chase. Ty Dillon, Brendan Gaughan and rookie Brandon Jones will now compete for the championship trophy over the course of the final seven races of 2016.
The field of 12 drivers has been reset for next weekend’s race at Kentucky Speedway, with Dillon, Gaughan and Jones tied in the series standings.
Gaughan recognized the hard work that got each RCR team into The Chase, “that’s what Richard (Childress) is all about, hard work and dedication. I’m really excited to go to battle in the Chase.”
The first round of the XFINITY Series Chase begins at Kentucky Speedway, then heads to Dover International Speedway and ends at Charlotte Motor Speedway. At the end of three races, the lowest four drivers in the standings will be eliminated from championship contention.
After the elimination race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the eight-driver Chase field will have their points reset before kicking off the second round of the Chase at Kansas Speedway. The second round then heads to Texas Motor Speedway and wraps up at Phoenix International Speedway, where the final four championship contenders will be determined at the end of the race.
The inaugural XFINTIY Series Chase will wrap up in a winner-takes-all event at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The four championship contenders will compete against one another, with the highest finishing driver earning the 2016 XFINITY Series championship.
Coverage of the first race of the XFINITY Series Chase at Kentucky Speedway kicks off next Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
