For Richard Childress Racing pit crew members, the NASCAR off-season allows for rest, recuperation and review.
However, once the holidays come to an end and the calendar is flipped, the training and focus become more intense. The workouts get tougher and the practices longer as the season-opening weekend in Daytona nears.
Each year RCR hosts an internal competition between each of the newly assembled pit crews. It is a chance to test their skills with the whole team watching, and may even be a little more about earning those bragging rights.
Throughout the day, the teams faced off against one another to see which over-the-wall crew could muster the fastest time. Even Richard Childress got involved, trying his hand behind the wheel of the pit car.
In the end, it was the No. 3 pit crew that had the quickest time when it mattered most, earning the trophy and bragging rights heading in Daytona.
