With a weekend off from on-track action, Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo took in his first NASCAR race Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. The Australian native has been a lifelong Dale Earnhardt fan and pilots the No. 3 F1 car as an homage to the seven-time NASCAR champion.
“I was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt,” Ricciardo told USA Today in 2014. “I’m a fan of motorsports, but I’ve followed NASCAR since I was very young. It was my first go-kart number, as well. When Formula One said you can pick your numbers this year, it was a no-brainer for me to choose the 3.”
Attending his first NASCAR race, there was really a no better choice of attire than wearing a vintage RCR t-shirt with Earnhardt’s iconic black No. 3 Chevrolet on it.
