Tyler Reddick used a lap of 40.031 in the second round of NASCAR Xfinity Series single-car qualifying to earn his second pole of the 2019 season and complete a Richard Childress Racing sweep of poles at Auto Club Speedway, as teammate Austin Dillon also earned the pole for Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race.
Reddick’s No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet was third in the first round of qualifying, but improved one position in the final round, topping Kyle Busch for the top spot. Reddick’s first pole of the season came at Daytona International Speedway in February.
“It feels awesome to complete the pole sweep for RCR at California this weekend,” said Reddick.
The No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet has been fast all weekend, but Reddick scraped the wall in opening Xfinity Series practice on Friday and spun in final practice. The team was able to make repairs and the damage did not slow the car at all.
“My team worked so hard yesterday to fix up our No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet Camaro after I got into the wall, so I’m glad I could win the pole as a thank you to them,” said Reddick. “We’ve put a lot into this Camaro and will be going hard after the win today.”
