With his fifth win of the season coming from Saturday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Tyler Reddick and the No. 2 Tame the Beast team has officially clinched the regular-season championship for the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
Along with the title of regular-season champion, the accomplishment comes with 15 bonus Playoff points for the No. 2 team, which will go into effect when the Playoffs begin next week at Richmond Raceway. Reddick, who has led the Xfinity Series points since mid-March, secured five wins, three pole awards, 20 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes on his way to the regular-season title.
The team clinched the title with less than 20 laps to go in Stage 2 of Saturday’s race.
“This is a huge accomplishment for everyone at RCR and ECR Engines and all the work they’ve put in this year,” said Reddick. “We’ve been extremely fortunate to have fast race cars from the moment we unloaded almost every weekend, and that’s helped myself, Randall (Burnett, crew chief), and the No. 2 team be able to go out there and not only contend for the lead but win races, too.
“This success starts with each and every person at the shop and goes all the way through each race weekend at the track, so this regular season championship really is a nod to everyone’s dedication and efforts,” said Reddick.
“To know we can enter the Playoffs with 15 bonus points is huge,” Reddick continued. “We have been focusing on Playoff points over the last few weeks, trying to capitalize on them as much as possible, so this will be a nice addition to kick off our title run at Richmond Raceway next week.”
Catch the Reddick, Burnett and the No. 2 team start their title run at Richmond Raceway next Friday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
