Austin Dillon spent his Thanksgiving doing something he’s not used to doing throughout a typical NASCAR season; he stayed in town. He stayed local in his hometown of Lexington, NC and gave his time to make sure others could have the best Thanksgiving possible. Teaming up with other Lexington athletes, Josh Bush and Cory Holt, the trio gave away over 300 turkeys and 2-liter Coca-Colas to residents of the area. Bush, a former safety for the Denver Broncos who was part of the team when beating the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, and Holt, former quarterback for the Virginia Tech Hokies, joined Dillon for the day as part of the #HomeTeamGives campaign.
With the support of the Lexington Walmart Supercenter, where the event was hosted, local families enjoyed spending the time talking with the athletes and went home with the gift of a turkey and Coca-Cola. Other local supporters included Childress Vineyards, the Lexington Police Department, and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Austin’s wife Whitney Dillon was also in attendance, as well as his parents Mike and Tina Dillon, with the support of Richard and Judy Childress.
