Remembering Your First Kiss ... at the Brickyard

Photo Gallery

  • Everyone remembers their first kiss, but for NASCAR drivers, team owners and crew members it is impossible to forget the first time kissing the bricks at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
  • Richard Childress, three-time Brickyard 400 Champion: 'You start with the ride around the racetrack; I go back to when I first did it with Earnhardt, and the most unbelievable thing about it is seeing all the fans yell and wave. It's a moment you never forget.'
  • Paul Menard, 2011 Brickyard 400 Champion Driver: 'Probably the coolest post-race moment was riding around in the pace car with Richard and my dad, just taking it all in. The bricks, they were extremely hot, gritty, and delicious.”
  • Ty Dillon, 2014 XFINITY Series winning driver: 'It’s hard to describe, everything that goes into winning a race there. Cementing your name in the history books at Indianapolis is something I’ll never forget. The best kiss ever…other than my wife.'
  • Rick Tulbert, 2003 Brickyard 400 Champion team member: 'Well, I probably started kissing em’ before they started taking photos. You think, 'When am I going get to do this again?' So, I kissed em’ when I got out there before they even said go ahead. I didn’t French kiss em’, but probably would have.'
  • Timmy Petty, 2011 Brickyard 400 Champion engine tuner: 'Phenomenal, there’s nothing that compares. Kissing the brick is the makings of a fairytale. We actually licked them; we said if we won we’d lick them. They tasted like sand, dirt and rubber. But it was great.'
  • Ray Wright, 2011 Brickyard 400 Champion rear tire changer: 'I’ve won a national college championship in baseball, but kissing the bricks, with the history that goes with Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it’s hard to put into words. They tasted really hot and I couldn’t get the burning sensation off my lips.'
  • Jason Jarrett, 2013 Brickyard 400 Champion spotter for Ryan Newman: 'I remember listening to the communication between Ryan and Greg (Ryan's dad, who was doing the majority of the spotter duties that day). Hearing how happy they were to win the Brickyard working together like that was amazing. That moment took me back to what it must have been like for my grandfather as he watched and was part of my dad (Dale Jarrett) winning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Winning is a great feeling and as you can imagine, winning at the Brickyard made that feeling even better.
  • Tyler Rader, 2014 XFINTIY Series winning fuel man: 'They tasted disgusting and delicious at the same time. The oil, grease and dirt never tasted so good.'
