RCR Honors Military Members During Memorial Day Weekend at Coca-Cola 600
By lstreet
This weekend, Richard Childress Racing joins the NASCAR industry, Coca-Cola, and Charlotte Motor Speedway to honor the Memorial Day holiday in a fashion unlike any other throughout the season. In what is considered one of NASCAR’s “Crown Jewel” races, the Coca-Cola 600 is a spectacle you don’t want to miss at the track, or on TV; not only because it’s the longest race on NASCAR’s year-long schedule, but it’s an event that revolves around honoring and remembering U.S. Military service men and women who gave their lives in active duty defending our country.
Charlotte Motor Speedway has proudly played host to this race and celebration in collaboration with The Coca-Cola Company for the past 63 years. At the weekend’s event, also referred to as “600 Miles of Remembrance,” all NASCAR Cup Series cars will feature a service member’s name on the windshield header. Additionally, friends and family of the featured service member will be hosted in an exclusive pre-race hospitality and be given tickets to the race.
This year, Austin Dillon , along with long-time partner Bass Pro Shops, will honor Scott Stout. Stout, a member of the U.S. Navy, lost his life on July 2, 2021 in Chesapeake, VA. Stout’s family and several of his fellow Navy Seals will be in attendance at the racetrack to pay tribute to the husband, father and friend.
Tyler Reddick and Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen are proud to honor Albert Tristan, whose life was taken on July 6, 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam, when he was serving as a member of the U.S. Army. Tristan was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and Army Commendation Medal. Several of Tristan’s family members, including his nephew Salomon, will travel to Charlotte to honor and remember him with the No. 8 team. Salomon is a proud employee of Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in Arizona.
The Coca-Cola 600 will be aired on FOX this Sunday, May 29th starting at 6:00pm, with exclusive pre-race coverage and NASCAR RaceDay starting at 5:00pm.
