Speedy Creed Heads to Richmond Raceway

RICHMOND, V.A. (March 31, 2023) – Sheldon Creed has the need and the speed heading into this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond Raceway. This will be the third appearance Creed makes at the Virginia short track collectively in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. With only six races under wraps for the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Creed has one top-five finish and three top-10 finishes in his No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet Camaro. Many factors contribute to the No. 2 team’s success at the track, including Creed’s exceptional driving abilities, the support of Whelen, a hard-working RCR and ECR crew, and the chemistry between Creed and his long-time crew chief, Jeff Stankiewicz.
Creed and Stankiewicz have a long history, one that includes two championship titles (2020 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and 2018 ARCA Menards Series). It all began for the duo towards the end of the 2017 ARCA Menards Series season. Together, Creed and Stankiewicz have four ARCA and eight Truck Series wins. The strong relationship between these two continues to grow and is sure to bring home more checkered flags in the Xfinity Series, just as they did in the Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series. All they are looking for now is their break, which was almost given to them last weekend at Circuit of The Americas in Texas.
“We had a great Whelen Engineering Chevrolet last week at COTA,” said Creed. “We showed speed all day, finished second in Stage 1, and won Stage 2. To get spun late, fall to 24th and race our way back to ninth just shows how good this Whelen Chevrolet team is. I was happy to run up front at COTA, but I feel like we’ve been fast all year and have had good runs going before something happens. I'm really proud of everyone involved who is pushing to make our team better.”
While past results don’t show a win in the Xfinity Series, they do show the improvements that have been made each time Creed and the team go out to perform. During last weekend’s race at Circuit of The Americas, Creed led the second most laps with 16, right behind the race winner. Creed also scored the most points in that race coming out with 47 total.
None of this would be possible, however, without the support of Whelen Engineering, Inc. Both RCR and Whelen share a passion for technology, innovation and have a longstanding relationship in the motorsports industry. Race fans can count on Creed being on track, along with Whelen for any safety lighting needs they may see at the tracks.
Creed often takes the lead on Whelen’s customer interactions at the race track, including meet and greets and hauler tours. The California native has also integrated Whelen into his micro sprint program at Milbridge Speedway in Salisbury, North Carolina. Earlier this week, Creed, who pilots the No. 74 Whelen Engineering machine, captured a heat win and a second-place result in the dash, before ultimately finishing in the third position in the main feature.
“We just need to keep building. We have been the last few weeks with strong stage results and if we continue to run the way we have been, we will start to get the finishes we want,” said Creed.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series race begins at 1 p.m. ET, Saturday on FS1 and will be broadcast on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
