Austin Hill landed his fourth win this season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, bypassing Josh Berry in a hectic overtime dash Saturday at Pocono Raceway.
Hill led just the final two of the 92 laps in the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225. His No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet was 0.657 seconds ahead at the end of his first victory at the 2.5-mile track and the sixth of his Xfinity Series career.
Sam Mayer ended the day as the runner-up in the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet. Cup Series regular Chase Elliott finished third, with Riley Herbst fourth and Daniel Hemric fifth.
Berry started from the pole position, swept both stages and led a race-high 52 laps but lost the lead to Hill when he drifted high on the final restart. After some final-lap contact with Hill’s No. 21, Berry’s No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet ended in a scrape against the outside wall. He was unofficially scored 24th.
Series points leader John Hunter Nemechek’s bid for a third consecutive Xfinity victory ended in a crash with Cole Custer at the start of the final stage. Both cars sustained significant damage after a jammed-up restart, knocking both from contention.
The Xfinity Series’ next race is the Henry 180, scheduled next Saturday, July 29 (3 p.m. ET, NBC, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), at Road America.
