Carolina Cowboys Start 2023 Season Off Strong in Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, W.Y. (July 27, 2023) –The PBR Camping World Team Series is officially back in action after kicking off the 2023 season at the 127th annual Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Led by NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Richard Childress, and driver of the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Austin Dillon , the Carolina Cowboys team showed up ready to ride, in front of one of the most passionate crowds in western sports. The Cowboys are off to a strong start after clinching a win both Monday and Tuesday night, and leaving the arena, known commonly as the “Daddy of ‘Em All” sitting second on the Team Series standings board.

The Davis’ own and operate Jerome Davis Ranch located in Archdale, North Carolina, where fans can swing through and visit once the PBR Team Series comes to town for the Carolina Cowboys’ homestand at the Greensboro Coliseum September 22-24. Courtesy of key scores from 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis and 2022 PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen, the Cowboys edged the Rattlers by 6.25 points to begin the season with a 179.25-173 win.

With seven-time PRCA Bullriding World Champion Sage Kimzey delivering a mammoth 90-point ride, and Davis adding more points to the board for the team, the Cowboys earned their second game win in as many days, earning a shutout with a powerful score of 178.5-0.
With two teams left undefeated after the first two games, the Carolina Cowboys and the Austin Gamblers turned to extra outs to determine the winner of the first event of the season. Jose Vitor Leme delivered for the Gamblers, posting a 90.5-point ride atop a powerhouse bull named I’m Legit Too.

Photo credit: Richard Childress Racing[/caption]In a sudden death showdown against the Gamblers, 2016 World Champion Davis exited the chutes atop Mike’s Motive, but was unable to make the eight second ride, leaving the Austin Gamblers with the victory and the Cowboys finishing second overall.
After Cheyenne’s event, the Carolina Cowboys’ Davis, Kimzey and Swearingen are sitting in the top-10 for the 2023 MVP and rider standings.
