Nick Woodward's racing career started at the age of eight, racing go-karts and dwarf cars. Woodward won three Virginia state go-kart championships and one WKA national go-kart championship in 1994. Woodward was inspired in racing by his father and the love for motorsports grew from there. Woodward did everything he could from cleaning, fixing, tearing down, setting up, and driving the cars. Woodward’s father and crew members were a huge help in getting tasks done in the garage during the week and at the track on weekends. That support system fueled Woodward’s love for the sport and gave him that competitive edge that he has carried through his life. Woodward spent the next few years racing go-karts from the age of eight to 14 and then moved into dirt cars from ages 15 to 16. Woodward moved into the NASCAR Weekley Racing Series at the age of 17. Woodward won 14 Late Model races at Southampton Motor Speedway during the 2000 season, including five consecutive. He also won five NASCAR Late Model races at South Boston Speedway. Woodward won the 2000 NASCAR Atlantic Seaboard Region Championship and was the runner-up in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Championship. At 21 years old, Woodward made his NASCAR Truck Series debut on August 3, 2001, at Indianapolis Raceway Park driving the No. 84 Long Brothers Racing truck. He started 24th and finished 11th in the race. He made another NASCAR Truck Series start in 2001 at South Boston Speedway, finishing 19th while driving for Long Brothers Racing.
Woodward took the next step up the NASCAR ladder to the NASCAR Xfinity Series where he made his debut at one of NASCAR’s most physical tracks, Dover Motor Speedway driving the No. 49 car for Jay Robinson Racing in 2002. Although he retired from the race early due to a mechanical failure, Woodward got another opportunity a few weeks later at Milwaukee Speedway.
Woodward returned to his home track of South Boston Speedway in 2003 to compete in the NASCAR Truck Series. After starting 23rd for Long Brothers Racing, Woodward completed all the laps and finished 14th.
Woodward began working for Richard Childress Racing in 2010 as the Graphics Manager. RCR is the first team in NASCAR to start its own graphics company in-house, under the direction of Woodward. Outside of racing, Woodward's family is very busy with traveling baseball/softball, school basketball, school volleyball, and quarter midget racing with his daughter. In his spare time, Woodward enjoys going to the beach and crabbing at home on the Eastern shore of Maryland.
